Volunteering

Queercus is home to a collective of radical faeries and a welcoming space for friends and allies who share our passion for nature, community, the arts, and personal growth.

We host volunteers year-round for stays ranging from one to two weeks. After an initial two-week stay, we can discuss the possibility of extending it for up to two more weeks if it feels right and aligns with everyone's schedule.

In recognition for their precious help, we offer volunteers room and board, as well as the opportunity to be part of our community life, which includes shared meals, fun evenings (movies, board games, tarot readings, etc.), heart circles, bonfires, pagan rituals and the occasional hike and outing. The house has high-speed fiber internet, and volunteers usually get their own room for added privacy. We ask volunteers to commit to five hours of work per day, five days a week. We are unable to cover transport costs for our volunteers, but we would be happy to pick you up from Angoulême train station (a 40-minute drive) if that is convenient for you.

As a queer collective, we welcome volunteers of all genders and sexual orientations, who share our values of respect and appreciation for the LGBTQ+ community.

We see ourselves as stewards of the land and its structures, primarily old stone buildings with centuries of history. We are looking for skilled volunteers to help us maintain and enhance this beautiful place, making it even more welcoming for others. Many hands make light work and sharing a project is a wonderful way of bonding with each other. We welcome everyone regardless of skillset and those with one or more of the following skills are especially welcome:

  • carpentry
  • construction
  • stone masonry
  • heat pump installation and service
  • electrical
  • plumbing
  • gardening or horticulture
  • architecture
  • roofing
